I am so sorry for posting a version of the reading/problems without any stars! The version with stars is up; due to hand in Wednesday are Problems 2, 4 and 7.
Also, Problem 4, G&T 5.18 requires you to have read about Mean Field theory in Section 5.7; and also grabbed the result of the previous problem, which gives an improved expression for the free energy per spin: f(T,H).
You can certainly just grab that result, Eq. (5.126), and go forward to solve G&T 5.18. Still, I've posted under "Resources" a couple of pages of notes that I hope lay a good foundation for understanding Mean Field theory, for that problem, and for seeing how critical exponents arise.
