Hi Allen! I agree with your thoughts on how Yu’s case highlights the tension between code-switching and translanguaging. It is interesting to see how societal language ideologies can pressure families like Oscar’s to change their natural ways of communicating to meet outsiders’ expectations. Your point about Oscar's mother’s choices demonstrates how deeply these expectations are embedded. It also made me consider how schools could create environments where translanguaging is encouraged rather than corrected. As we are moving towards the future, I would love to know some of your thoughts on how do you think educators can better support families who experience this kind of linguistic pressure?
