This semester Ava and I have been working on expanding and continuing to work on the Lead Awareness project we started last semester. Prior to break, we did a lot of work writing and submitting grant proposals for household prducts like dust mats, cleaning supplies, water filters, and even some produce to help promote safer and healthier practices that would combat lead from tracking into the home. This semester we've been mostly focusing on outreach as it relates to the lead project to see where and how we can disburse these resources. Currently, we are working on securing produce donations from grocery stores and trying to connect with daycare centers in Chester that would allow us to share this information with their parents at pickup/drop off times and perhaps give out the produce/food vouchers to those in need.
One goal I have set for myself this semester is to stay as physically connected to Chester as possible. Last semester we spent a lot of time in Chester as a class for different sessions or talks like at Indigo Mills, Chester Education, or City Hall with the mayor. This semester, since we are not meeting as a class as often, I don't have the opportunity or any specific reason, I suppose, to go to Chester, especially with a majority of my internship's work being online. Therefore, I really have to make the intentional choice to continue to go into Chester on my own whether it be for my internship or just to interact with the neighborhood in general which is something I plan to do in the coming weeks.
