Hi Pedro! I enjoyed reading your response! I find the parallels you drew between the control of Black English and the assimilation pressures faced by immigrant students in ELL programs very interesting. Your connection to Henner and Robinson’s idea of language deprivation was also compelling as it emphasizes how accessibility issues affect both Deaf and immigrant students. The mention of "dinner table syndrome" also raises an important aspect of inclusion - being a good teacher means recognizing and supporting students' different linguistic and social realities, as well as those of the communities to which they belong. Reading your response also made me wonder how educators can go beyond simply acknowledging differences and actually develop practices that put inclusion at the center?
