The Late Bronze Age (1700-1200 BCE) represents the high point of Mediterranean prehistory. Great kingdoms and peoples, from Egypt to Mesopotamia to Greece, rose, flourished, and contributed to a complex international system. In short order, however, this vibrant world came under considerable and fatal strain, leading ultimately to its collapse. Through examination of textual and archaeological evidence, this course introduces students to the Bronze Age, evaluates its violent end, and considers the aftermath that followed it.
