I love that you chose to focus on the role of parents and the ways these roles might be misinterpreted by institutions. It is so important to acknowledge the role that parents of emergent bilinguals with disabilities may have to fill outside of just traditional school responsibilities. I agree that one of the struggles is balancing understanding the full scope of a child’s life, and the perception of “topics too political for school” or “controversial topics”. Especially with the current political climate, it may also be difficult for teachers to acknowledge these aspects of a child’s life, if their school administration does not want them to mention certain topics at school.
