Hi Elisha! I loved your insights on the readings. I agree that it is so important to acknowledge the racialized notions of appropriateness. When I was young I never truly understood the differences and impact of “academic English”. As I have gotten older (and taken Ed classes!) I have begun to understand how harmful the notion of appropriateness within language can be, especially for multilingual and multicultural students. I agree that we need to reconsider notions of language appropriateness within the classroom, and especially work to bring multicultural aspects of language to school settings.
