This course provides a broad introductory survey of psychopathology, with an emphasis on the major forms of mental illness found in adults. The focus is on describing the clinical presentation, prevalence, and course of mental disorders, as well as considering the various theories of their etiology.  In addition, you will learn about current and emerging treatments for each disorder we will cover.  The course emphasizes a critical thinking approach to the understanding of abnormal behavior. Together, we will confront some of the controversial issues and unresolved questions that psychologists face as they seek to better understand, prevent, and alleviate psychological suffering.
