“Breaking the Internet: Slavery, Resistance, and the Digital Humanities,” is a first year seminar focused on vibrant new developments at the intersections of the digital humanities and the study of slavery. Students will encounter early histories of Black life in the era of slavery through a variety of digital humanities projects. They will grapple with debates in the history of slavery as they relate to the digital humanities, consider the ethics of knowledge production about the history of slavery, and hone their analytical skills through critiques of digital humanities projects and by proposing their own.
