
This course explores theoretical orientations and analytical techniques for music in the Western canon. Students will learn the conventions of Western traditional music while gaining familiarity with analytical terms and symbols that allow them to convey musical thoughts clearly and efficiently. Additionally, this course expands on the principles of counterpoint, functional harmony, and voice leading in four-part writing. Students will build an effective framework for understanding and interpreting musical structures and enhance their ability to sight read, process, and perform music.
