In this course we will examine the way that language makes gender, and gender makes language. This includes examinations of gender marking in morphosyntax (such as grammatical gender, gendered nouns and pronouns, etc.); the way that sociolinguistic variables can be influenced by gendered embodiment and create gendered performance; and how gender influences linguistic interactions and their interpretations.
