Foundation Drawing is an introduction to learning to see and describe through drawing. Students are led through a sequence of observational drawing approaches including line, value and tone, gesture, cross contouring, negative and positive space. Design and composition are emphasized through out. Students will progress through different media including pencil, charcoal, and ink wash to explore the variety of approaches to learning to see and describe their environment perceptively. This experience is viewed as the basis for all other visual arts courses offered in the Dept of Art including painting, figure drawing, sculpture, photography, clay, print making and book arts.
