This course affords a close encounter with Hindi, direct from the mouths of native speakers. Students will develop inference techniques for eliciting, understanding, analyzing, and presenting complex linguistic data. They will also gain practical experience using state-of-theart technology, annotation, and archiving for scientific purposes. For example, we will construct an online database containing the results of our elicitation work.  This course will draw upon all aspects of students’ linguistic training to date – phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics – and the success of the course will depend partly on the ability of students with complementary skill sets to work collaboratively and cooperatively.
