#53 - I want to introduce you to binary arithmetic, but I don't want you to spend too much time here. For part a, I want you to look up the answer in the back of the book and just VERIFY that it works.
#54 - This problem is more fun with the following different context. Why does your scratched CD still work? The scratches mean that some data can't be read by your CD player. The answer is that CD's are encoded using error-correcting codes. It can fix (some) errors induced by scratches. Think about this as you work this problem.
